Dr. Wei Zhong received an R21 grant from The National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA) for the project titled “DUOX2 dysfunction in alcohol-induced host-microbiota dyshomeostasis.” Alcoholic liver disease (ALD) is a major cause of morbidity and mortality in the United States. However, FAD-approved therapies are currently not available. The proposed research will explore the mechanism of how excess alcohol intake causes host and microbiota dyshomeostasis as well as the subsequent liver damage, aiming at developing novel interventions for treating ALD.
